The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 835 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Position Description:

The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of High School History teacher for the remainder of the semester of the 2020-2021 school year. This is a temporary position which would start immediately and carry through mid-January. The candidate will have High School level teaching experience in the History/Social Studies Classroom, hold at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field and possess a clear educational philosophy, which is consistent with the mission of the school.


This is a one semester contract position, with no guarantee or promise of employment beyond the terms of the contract.


The Successful Teacher will:

  • Teach 4 sections of Upper School History: two sections of Modern European and Us History. Have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and work to create a supportive atmosphere and rigorous academic program in which all students will thrive.
  • Display professionalism in working with all stakeholders in the school.
  • Cover study halls and help supervise advisory.
  • Show a desire to work collaboratively with all members of the Shipley Community to positively contribute to the enhancement of our learning community.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience teaching US history and Modern European History.
  • Exhibit excellent speaking and writing skills.
  • Have experience with content-based instruction to Upper-School aged students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to execute lessons using a wide variety of authentic materials.
  • Show interest in Positive Education and the integration of Positive Education in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate an excellent ability to differentiate instruction in order to meet all students' needs
