Position Purpose: The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Middle School Athletics Coordinator.

Position Description

The Middle School Athletics Coordinator will organize and supervise the entire Middle School intramural and interscholastic PE/Athletics programs under the general direction of the Director of Athletics and the Associate Director of Athletics. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for scheduling and supervising all Middle School athletic programs. This role will contribute to the evaluation of Middle School athletic programs, including coaches, trainers and other support staff. In addition, MS Athletic Coordinator will organize transportation for teams and officials for all contests and handle daily confirmations. In some instances the MS Athletics Coordinator will have discretion to alter scheduled events and represent the Middle School in the absence of the Athletic Director or other school administrators to protect the safety and security of students and school property.  

The MS Athletics Coordinator will: 

  • Teach MS Physical Education and/or coach each season.
  • Manage the MS athletics programs 
  • Schedule all MS intramural and interscholastic games/matches 
  • Organize and maintain field/gym schedules in the online system
  • Organize and confirm transportation, officials, and opponents on a weekly and daily basis.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment among the coaches with feedback and general guidance.
  • Ensures the safe and efficient transition of athletic facilities between MS to US activities on a daily basis.
  • Be the on-site athletic representative when needed to ensure the safety and security of students and school property. 

The Successful Candidate will have: 

  • Bachelor's Degree Physical Education or in a related field of study
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Middle or High School Physical Education
  • Experience in athletic administration
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that includes some nights and weekends 
  • Experience scheduling athletic events and practices in a shared facilities environment
  • Experience evaluating coaches, trainers and other athletic staff
  • Ability to drive a 9 passenger van.
  • Ability to carry 50 lbs
  • Ability to be outside for prolonged periods of time in a variety of weather conditions.

The Ideal Candidate will have: 

  • Experience in an Independent school 
  • Ability to be a varsity head coach
  • Experience with Blackbaud systems
  • Ability to teach wellness classes
